THE ROOF OF THE WORLD IS NOT ALWAYS PARADISE…
... SCHOOLING CAN PAVE THE WAY!
Too many Nepalese children don't go to school,
we have the power to change that!

Their names are Harex, Rojan, Avi and Krish. Nathalie, our President, met them on the streets of Kathmandu in October 2023.
Like hundreds of other Nepalese children, their life is hard, very hard. Left to their own devices, prey to evil adults, they try to survive as best they can.
The four of them have chosen to stay together to protect each other and share the little they manage to get by begging.
Their daily lives are far removed from the carefree, light-hearted way of life that their young age should allow. Hungry, cold, sick, they sleep on the street floor, huddled together for warmth.
Every morning, they see more fortunate children pass by in their beautiful uniforms, on their way to school. For Harex, Rojan, Avi and Krish, it's an unattainable dream, so they just stand there on the sidewalk, enduring this harsh reality, this incredible injustice. Unfortunately, they are not isolated cases.
Today, let's act to open the doors of hope for a better life to as many street children as possible. Schooling is the beginning of the process.

Little Pasang Dawa, whom I met in the mountains, realizes how privileged he is to be able to go to school, even if he has to walk 7 hours to get there at the beginning of the week and 7 hours to get home at the end. I hiked with him for a while, and he jumped like a goat, in flip-flops, even though we were at an altitude of almost 5,000 m....
Nepal and the Nepalese people have touched me deeply, ever since my first trip to the land of the world's highest mountains. The black eyes of the street children, their Namasté (greetings in Nepalese), their smiles, but also their wounds, their rags, their suffering left me no choice but to show them a little love.

Education in Nepal
Getting a quality education in Kathmandu is complicated. While public schools are free, the cost of uniforms and school materials remains prohibitive for many underprivileged families. 770,000 children do not go to school and as is often the case, young girls and children from ethnic minorities are the most affected.
Some children work to support their families financially, and every little rupee they earn contributes to the survival of the poorest households. Nearly 25% of Nepalese girls are already working by the age of 5.
The weight of cultural traditions in some communities also discourages school enrolment, especially for girls.
Unfortunately, going to public school is no guarantee of a quality education. Teachers are under-trained, underpaid and absenteeism is widespread. By the end of primary school, 50% of pupils have insufficient knowledge of Nepalese or mathematics.
Schooling, a key factor in children's emancipation, is severely lacking in Nepal.
Today, let's transform the lives of every child this fundraiser will help!

Our local partner
For 30 years now, Garuda Nepal has been funding schooling for Nepalese children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its Chairman, Jacques Girodet, and its Founder, Jérôme Edou, who lives in Nepal, are passionate about this magnificent country, its people and its culture.
The charity pays tuition fees directly to partner schools that it has approved and whose reliability it can guarantee. Garuda Népal effectue aussi un suivi de chaque élève et de ses résultats.
Of course, their help doesn't stop at education: training in dispensaries, emergency aid for remote villages...
In 2015, following the terrible earthquake that devastated the country, the charity provided emergency support to several remote villages. It also financed the reconstruction of 4 schools, including the one in the video.
Every time you share this fundraising campaign with your contacts, it's an opportunity to help these children!
This campaign is organized by Un Verre d'Eau in aid of Garuda Nepal. 100% of donations received by Un Verre d'Eau (excluding transaction costs) are donated to Garuda Nepal to finance schooling for children in Kathmandu.
